It's really quite ironic that people who spend a lot of time in certain places do everything they can to block out ads. Especially online it's pretty easy by now to simply get rid of every banner ad showing up - you can even block out google ad words by default. I really love it...
Using Firefox there are a number of addons that enable you to gain full control over your screen. Quite obviously it's harder to block out billboard ads in public space. But our brain does a good job in focusing.
Most people don't even look at billboard ads - which doesn't necessarily mean that the message is not perceived and processed. But I'm pretty sure that most people would wear special ad-blocking glasses if they were available. Those could just replace ads with nice colorful pictures.
So - the point I'm trying to make is - do you really want people to hate your ads? Do you actually want to annoy them wherever they go? If you don't please just stop mainstream advertisement. It doesn't work well anyway and it upsets people.
